A house RESOLUTION
to recognize and congratulate Private First Class Saquan LaFontaine upon being named the Rotary club of myrtle beach "officer Joe mcGarry memorial police officer of the year" for 2024 and to commend him for his exemplary service, dedication to duty, and positive impact on his community and state.
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Private First Class (PFC) Saquan LaFontaine has been named Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach "Officer Joe McGarry Memorial Police Officer of the Year" for 2024; and
Whereas, this prestigious award honors a police officer who exemplifies outstanding performance and dedication to duty while preserving the legacy of Officer Joe McGarry, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on December 29, 2002; and
Whereas, a valued member of the Myrtle Beach Police Department, PFC LaFontaine consistently demonstrates commitment, leadership, and an unwavering desire to improve both his department and the broader community; and
Whereas, in 2025, he was assigned to the Administrative Division as a neighborhood officer serving the Booker T. Washington community. He has embraced this role with purpose, enthusiasm, and a genuine commitment to fostering safety and trust; and
Whereas, PFC LaFontaine is recognized for his proactive approach to community engagement. He initiated collaborative efforts with the City of Myrtle Beach Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism Department to address concerns at Bathsheba Bowens Park and Futrell Park. He also maintains close coordination with school resource officers and regularly visits the Boys and Girls Club to strengthen relationships with staff, parents, and students; and
Whereas, through his consistent outreach, responsiveness, and sincere desire to make a difference, PFC LaFontaine exemplifies what it means to serve with honor and compassion; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives take great pride in recognizing PFC Saquan LaFontaine's well-deserved award and commend his continued dedication to making Myrtle Beach a safer and stronger community for all. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Private First Class Saquan LaFontaine upon being named the Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach "Officer Joe McGarry Memorial Police Officer of the Year" for 2024, and commend him for his exemplary service, dedication to duty, and positive impact on his community and state.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to PFC Saquan LaFontaine.
