A house RESOLUTION

 

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CLARISSA T. ADAMS, CHIEF OF STAFF FOR THE SOUTH CAROLINA OFFICE OF THE STATE TREASURER, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AFTER FORTY-ONE YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE TO THE STATE, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives have learned that Clarissa Adams will begin a well-deserved retirement after forty-one years in state government, the last of which have been as the distinguished and highly regarded Chief of Staff in the South Carolina Office of the State Treasurer; and

 

Whereas, Ms. Adams earned a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's of business administration in order to prepare for a stellar career in state government; and

 

Whereas, she began her career in state government as an internal auditor for the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation in 1984. Ms. Adams went on to serve the late State Treasurer Grady Patterson in various roles, including assistant state treasurer, managing the agency's administration division; was assistant to the commissioner of agriculture as director of administration; then served as assistant comptroller general for the South Carolina Comptroller General's Office, where she successfully managed its administration division; and

 

Whereas, she later served on the transition team of Treasurer-Elect Curtis M. Loftis Jr. and re-joined the State Treasurer's Office as deputy state treasurer in 2011 before becoming chief of staff in 2014, where she has provided strategic and operational oversight of the banking and investment management, treasury management, debt management, programs, information technology, communications and administration divisions of the office; and

 

Whereas, Ms. Adams is a certified public manager with the State of South Carolina and received her certificate in public treasury management (investments and pensions) from Pepperdine School of Business and Management. She is past president of the S.C. State Internal Auditors Association and served on the executive management public sector board of the National Institute of Public Finance; and

 

Whereas, she has been an active member of the Columbia service and philanthropic community, with a history of active volunteer service including board member of Junior League of Columbia, chair of the Central Carolina Community Foundation Wine Festival, United Way of the Midlands, board member of Friends of the Library, and a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church; and

 

Whereas, a seasoned public finance professional with over four decades of experience, Ms. Adams is retiring after forty-one years of faithful service to the State of South Carolina; and

 

Whereas, grateful for her many years of distinguished service to the State of South Carolina, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pleasure in extending best wishes to Clarissa Adams as she transitions to a richly deserved retirement and the unhurried pace of the days ahead, and the members wish her many years of enjoyment in her well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Clarissa Adams, Chief of Staff for the South Carolina Office of the State Treasurer, upon the occasion of her retirement after forty-one years of exemplary service to the State, and wish her continued success and happiness in all her future endeavors.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Clarissa Adams.
