A house RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE Emma Louise Jefferies Houston ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDRED fourTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MANY YEARS OF CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Emma Louise Jefferies Houston of Cherokee County will celebrate her one hundred fourth birthday on Friday, May 9, 2025; and

 

Whereas, born in the first quarter of the twentieth century, she has witnessed the many remarkable social changes, technological advancements, and international developments that have spanned the globe from that time into the first quarter of the twenty-first century; and

 

Whereas, born in Gaffney on May 9, 1921, Emma Louise was the last of twenty-one children born to Daniel and Blanche Montgomery Jefferies; and

 

Whereas, together with her beloved husband, the late J. B. Houston Sr., she reared five fine children Dorthy Jean Allen, Strap Houston, Barbara Sarratt, Fleetwood Houston, and J. B. Houston Jr. Although four of her children have predeceased her, they blessed her with the affection of many loving grandchildren; and

 

Whereas, despite her diminutive size, Mrs. Houston has had a significant impact, particularly in the lives of her grandchildren with whom she is exceptionally close; and

 

Whereas, without a license or formal training, Mrs. Houston taught a sort of mathematics through her example, not in a school classroom but in her community, when she added the values of love and hard work to her life; subtracted a can't-do attitude from her mind; multiplied these concepts in her home, church, and community; and divided them among her children; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to honor this daughter of South Carolina at the celebration of her one hundred fourth birthday and join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Emma Louise Jefferies Houston on the occasion of her one hundred fourth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and many years of continued health and happiness.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Emma Louise Jefferies Houston.
