A house RESOLUTION

 

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE Gilbert High School boys golf TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2025 SOUTH CAROLINA Region 4 CLASS AAAA CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Gilbert High boys golf team of Lexington County won at the region championship tournament held at Ponderosa Country Club in Batesburg-Leesville on Thursday, May 1, 2025; and

 

Whereas, to the delight of their exuberant fans, the Gilbert Indians snatched the victory from a fine, competitive field of comers in the region with a score of 310, just 2 points below their nearest competitor, to give the team a victory in its first year in class AAAA competition; and

 

Whereas, after being down in all five positions at one time, Gilbert High kept chipping and plugging away to capture the regional trophy. The teams were so close that the Indian golfers thought they might have to have a playoff with North Augusta; and

 

Whereas, Eli Hooker, playing in the number five spot was still on course. He posted his second lowest score ever, 77, which helped to clench the 2-stroke victory. Brady Senn had a superb total of 73, and Peyton Lawhorne tripled on the first hole and finished with a score of 77 to make the All-Region team; and

 

Whereas, Finn Mortenson posted 83, and Coleman Hernandez followed close behind with 85, to give the team the winning total of 310; and

 

Whereas, in a sport that exacts strength, strategy, and versatility, Head Coach Dru Nix and his skilled coaching staff capitalized on their own athletic experience and training to forge a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes life principles that will endure beyond the courses; and

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the pride and recognition that the Gilbert golfers have brought to their school and their community, and the members look forward to following their continued achievements in the days to come. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Gilbert High School boys golf team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2025 South Carolina Region 4 Class AAAA Championship title.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal David Dixon and Coach Dru Nix.
