A house RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE MOTHER REBECCA CUMMINGS OF MOUNT PLEASANT IN CHARLESTON COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

 

Whereas, on July 4, 2025, Mother Rebecca Cummings will awaken to celebrate a remarkable milestone:  her 100th birthday; and

 

Whereas, born on July 4, 1925, in the first quarter of the twentieth century, native South Carolinian Mother Rebecca Cummings has witnessed a century of extraordinary social change, technological advancement, and global development; and

 

Whereas, from humble beginnings, she grew into a woman of remarkable strength, deep faith, and steadfast devotion to her family and community.  Her life has been marked by resilience, vitality, and a powerful legacy that continues to inspire all who know her; and

 

Whereas, on October 19, 1948, she married the love of her life, Francis Cummings.  Their union was blessed with six children, eighteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.  Together, they built a home rooted in love, Christian values, and principals that continue to influence generations; and

 

Whereas, Mother Rebecca Cummings worked diligently for many years as a housekeeper, a role she embraced with pride and grace.  Through her work, she modeled the virtues of humility, perseverance, and selfless service; and

 

Whereas, a pillar of her faith community, she is the oldest Mother of Olive Branch AME Church.  Her longstanding service as a trustee, deaconess, and missionary reflects her unwavering devotion to her faith and her willingness to lead with wisdom, compassion, and grace; and

 

Whereas, Mother Rebecca Cummings is dearly cherished for her lifelong commitment to God, her family, and her community.  Her legacy of faith, love, and service endures as a shining example and a source of strength for all who are blessed to know her; and

 

Whereas, it is with great admiration and heartfelt appreciation that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives celebrate this extraordinary daughter of the Palmetto State on the joyous occasion of her 100th birthday.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Mother Rebecca Cummings of Mount Pleasant in Charleston County on the occasion of her 100th birthday and wish her a joyous celebration and much happiness in the days ahead.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mother Rebecca Cummings.
