A house RESOLUTION
TO congratulate and SALUTE ROY CHOON-WOO LIM FOR HIS DEDICATED COMMUNITY SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF COLUMBIA, TO THANK HIM FOR HIS GENEROUS DONATION OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA KOREAN WAR VETERANS MEMORIAL MONUMENT IN THAT FAIR CITY, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH CONTINUED SUCCESS AND FULFILLMENT AS HE CONTINUES TO SERVE.
Whereas, it is with much pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives recognizes those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to the welfare of this great state's citizenry. Having spent his life serving others, Roy Choon-Woo Lim of Columbia exemplifies such South Carolinians; and
Whereas, a respected Korean American community leader, Roy Choon-Woo Lim of Columbia is an entrepreneur and philanthropist whose contributions have created a lasting legacy in the State of South Carolina, particularly in honoring the service and sacrifice of Korean War veterans; and
Whereas, in 2000, while serving as the seventeenth president of the Korean Association of Columbia, Mr. Lim made a generous, heartfelt donation: the South Carolina Korean War Veterans Memorial monument that now stands at the Columbia VA Health Care System. Crafted of stone sourced from Korea's revered Naktong River, the site of a pivotal Korean War battle, the monument honors the memory of countless soldiers who gave their lives in the war, including many young men from South Carolina; and
Whereas, the monument bears a simple yet profound message: "Thank You to the People of South Carolina -- offered by Mr. and Mrs. Roy Choon-Woo Lim and the Korean Association of Columbia"; and
Whereas, this monument is more than a structure of stone; it is, in addition, a symbol of gratitude, remembrance, and the enduring bond between the people of Korea and South Carolina. It stands as a permanent tribute to the shared sacrifice made by the brave men who fought and the freedom they sought to bring to Korea; and
Whereas, in 1985, Roy Choon-Woo Lim immigrated to the United States, and in 1990 he chose Columbia as his family's permanent home. That same year, he founded DBA Building Cleaning & Maintenance, Inc., a successful small business that continues to support the local economy by employing many community members; and
Whereas, a devoted husband, father of two daughters and one son, and proud grandfather of two, Mr. Lim has lived a life marked by hard work, family values, and civic engagement. His unwavering commitment to veterans and the broader community reflects the very best of immigrant contributions to our nation, as well as the strong American spirit behind those contributions; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives recognize that the success of the State of South Carolina, the strength of its communities, and the vitality of American society as a whole depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of individuals like Roy Choon-Woo Lim who use their talents and resources to serve others. Gratefully, the House acknowledges Mr. Lim's exceptional generosity, community leadership, and lifelong dedication to honoring Korean War veterans, all of them greathearted contributions to the betterment of the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate and salute Roy Choon-Woo Lim for his dedicated community service to the citizens of Columbia, thank him for his generous donation of the South Carolina Korean War Veterans Memorial monument in that fair city, and wish him much continued success and fulfillment as he continues to serve.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Roy Choon-Woo Lim.
