A house RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE BRUCE COOK OF LEXINGTON COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HIM MANY YEARS OF CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Bruce Cook of Lexington County celebrated his one hundredth birthday on September 23, 2025; and
Whereas, born in Swansea on September 23, 1925, in the first quarter of the twentieth century, he has witnessed the many remarkable social changes, technological advancements, and international developments that have spanned the globe from that time into the first quarter of the twenty-first century; and
Whereas, Mr. Cook married his first wife in 1949, and together they raised two children, Philip and Peggy. Following her passing, he found love again and married his second wife in 1983. Today, he continues to lead an active life, spending time with fellow veterans and teaching Sunday school at Northside Baptist Church; and
Whereas, he developed a passion for aviation early in life and aspired to become a pilot while still in high school. He served his country honorably as a ball turret gunner in the Army Air Corp, training in Laredo, Texas, and flying thirty-five missions aboard the B-17 aircraft. He was honorably discharged in 1945, having completed over two years of active-duty service during World War II; and
Whereas, in 1963, Mr. Cook founded Lexington Jewelers in Lexington. After two decades of dedicated service to the community, he sold the business in 1983. The store remained a beloved local fixture until it closed in December of 2021 after fifty-eight years in operation; and
Whereas, Bruce Cook's life stands as a testament to resilience, service, and devotion to family and faith. He continues to inspire all who know him; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is honored to recognize this son of South Carolina at the celebration of his one hundredth birthday and to join with his family and friends in congratulating him on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Bruce Cook of Lexington County on the occasion of his one hundredth birthday and wish him many years of continued health and happiness.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Bruce Cook.
