A house RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE CENTRA LEE GREEN ON THE OCCASION OF HER NINETIETH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MANY YEARS OF CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Centra Lee Green will celebrate her ninetieth birthday on February 18, 2026. Born in Marion on February 18, 1936, she has witnessed the many remarkable social changes, technological advancements, and international developments spanning the globe from that time into the twenty-first century; and

 

Whereas, she is the oldest of three children born to the late Boyd and Eslena Fling, growing up with her siblings, Boyd Jr. and Esther; and

 

Whereas, she attended the old Pleasant Grove Grammar School in the Penderboro Community and then later attended Johnakin School, originally called Marion County Training School; and

 

Whereas, she moved to Brooklyn, New York, in 1960, where she attended night school and worked hard to pass her exams, which then allowed her to work in the medical records field for the state of New York for ten years, specializing in medical coding. She worked for twenty-five years at New York City's Hospital for Special Surgery before returning to Marion to care for her parents; and

 

Whereas, Centra Lee Green is a devoted and proud mother of two children, the late Jeffrey Green and Cathy Green-Williams; and

 

Whereas, she has been a dedicated member of Missionary Baptist Church for more than sixty years where she has happily taken on many roles. She dutifully serves as the church secretary, a position she has filled for more than thirty years; is a regular Sunday school and Bible study attendee; is a retired member of the A.C. Robinson Singers Choir; and for more than twenty years she served faithfully as the president of the Deaconess Ministry. Centra Lee is a great example of steadfast faith and devotion to the Lord, her favorite verse of scripture being Psalm 23; and

 

Whereas, Centra Lee is still a committed member of the Eastern Star, where she previously served as worthy matron of Stevenson Chapter #316; and

 

Whereas, Centra Lee enjoys traveling, shopping, watching Perry Mason reruns, and cooking, but most of all she loves taking care of others and serving God; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to honor this daughter of South Carolina in celebration of her ninetieth birthday and join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Centra Lee Green on the occasion of her ninetieth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and many years of continued health and happiness.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Centra Lee Green.
