A house RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE AIKEN COUNTY MINISTERS' WIVES AND MINISTERS' WIDOWS ALLIANCE AS THE ORGANIZATION HOSTS THE 81ST ANNUAL STATE CONFERENCE AND TO CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS FOR MORE THAN EIGHT DECADES OF SERVICE IN THEIR CHURCHES AND COMMUNITIES AROUND THE STATE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn the Aiken County Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows Alliance will host the 81st Annual South Carolina Association of Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows (SCAMWMW) State Conference; and

Whereas, although no formal documentation of the Aiken County Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows Alliance's history exists prior to 1982, the history written in 1982 recognizes that the alliance was organized around 1934 at the home of Mrs. Mamie Holland. The Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows Alliance of Aiken County has a history of love and service for the interests of the community, mission work, and support of those in distress; and

Whereas, the training and fellowship offered by the alliance has allowed all members to use their talents to support each other, the community, their churches, and their husbands. The purpose of the organization is to unite ministers' wives and widows of various Christian denominations into a fellowship for effective service in the community and emphasizes training, fellowship, and the talents of its members to support each other and their churches; and

Whereas, donations and volunteer services have been rendered to such organizations as Morris College, Special Olympics, Helping Hands, Hope Health, Edgefield County Churches Helping Others, and Area Churches Together Serving. The alliance has helped individuals, including sick members and bereaved families, three families of the Graniteville train derailment incident, and a woman mauled by a pit bull on the way to church on Easter Sunday; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives values the hope and service offered by the members of the Aiken County Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows Alliance and congratulates them on the continuation of their significant contributions. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Aiken County Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows Alliance as the organization hosts the 81st Annual State Conference and congratulate the members for more than eight decades of service in their churches and communities around the State.
