A house RESOLUTION

 

To remember and celebrate the life of Willie Mae Capers Reames, of Lee County, and to extend the deepest sympathy to her large and loving family and many friends.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the passing of Willie Mae Capers Reames at the age of 103 on Monday, March 23, 2026; and

 

Whereas, born on May 14, 1922, to the late James Capers Sr. and Viola Peterson Capers Thomas, she was the oldest of five children and the only girl. Mrs. Reames attended public school in Lee County throughout her education. She married her beloved husband, the late Britton Reames Sr., and their union was blessed with nine wonderful children, James Reames, Britton Reames Jr., Loraine Aaron, Naomi Aaron, Joseph Reames, Hosea Pearson, Evelyn Reames, Betty Reames Fortune, and Carolyn Reames; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Reames was a dedicated mother and homemaker. She enjoyed spending time tending to her garden, and loved making quilts and lye soap; and

 

Whereas, strong in her faith, Mrs. Reames accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church. She later joined the New Zion AME Church in Wisacky, South Carolina, upon her marriage to Britton Reames Sr., where she was an avid member for the rest of her life; and

 

Whereas, affectionally known as "Mooch," Mrs. Reames was loved by all and was known as the mother of her community. She will be remembered for her loving spirit and beautiful smile; and

 

Whereas Mrs. Reames was a devoted grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother to a large and loving family. She took pride in each one of them and was active in their upbringing; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Willie Mae Capers Reames and for the example of kindness and faithfulness she set for all who knew her. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, remember and celebrate the life of Willie Mae Capers Reames, of Lee County, and extend the deepest sympathy to her large and loving family and many friends.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Willie Mae Capers Reames.
