A house RESOLUTION

 

To recognize and honor the Chesnee high school boys wrestling team, coaches, and school officials for an impressive season and to congratulate them on winning the South Carolina 2026 Class AA State Championship Title.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to hear that the Chesnee High School boys wrestling team won the South Carolina 2026 Class AA State Championship title held at White Knoll High School in Columbia on Wednesday, February 11, 2026; and

 

Whereas, after winning the Upper State Championship match 34-28 against the Chester High School Cyclones, the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year, the Chesnee High School Eagles were determined to go all the way and bring home the state championship title; and

 

Whereas, in the SCHSL AA State Championship match the Eagles dominated their competition, the Edisto High School Cougars, besting them 70-12 to win the state title. This win was a true team effort and proved just how all-around talented this team is; and

 

Whereas, the Eagles labeled this their "redemption season," after winning the 2024 state title, but falling short in the 2025 season. They spent the off season prepping to come back and win it all this year. The Eagles spent more time practicing and strength training than ever before, determined to prove themselves. All of that hard work paid off with an impressive 11-match winning streak that led to their second state title in three years; and

 

Whereas, in a sport that requires strength and agility, Head Coach Jon Rentz and his talented coaching staff utilized their own experience and passion for the sport to mold a championship-caliber team. The lessons that they have taught these young athletes will continue to shape them on and off the mat; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives value the pride and recognition that the Chesnee boys wrestling team have brought to their school and community. They look forward to hearing of these young athletes future accomplishments in the days to come. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Chesnee High School boys wrestling team, coaches, and school officials on winning the South Carolina 2026 Class AA State Championship title.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Chesnee High School Principal Steven Fusaro and Head Coach Jon Rentz.
