A house RESOLUTION

 

To recognize and honor Barbara Lee Rollins upon the occasion of her retirement, to commend her for more than five decades of dedicated service to music education and community life, and to wish her much happiness and fulfillment in the years ahead. 

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to recognize Barbara Lee Rollins upon her retirement after more than fifty years of exemplary leadership in musical organizations throughout Aiken, as well as her steadfast commitment to inspiring young people to develop and excel in their musical talents; and

 

Whereas, Barbara Rollins established a strong musical foundation during her high school years as a member of the South Dakota All-State Band and as a soloist with the South Dakota All-State Orchestra.  She later earned a master's degree in Instrumental Music Education from the University of Illinois and began her distinguished career as a band director in Illinois public schools before bringing her talents to Aiken; and

 

Whereas, in 1974, she and her husband, Roger, co-founded the Aiken Community Band.  She further expanded her impact in 1999 by founding and directing the Rollins Christian Big Band, the Rollins Brass Ensemble, and the Aiken Area Akademie (AAA) Home School Band, inspiring generations of award-winning young musicians; and

 

Whereas, in 2014, Ms. Rollins founded and directed the South Aiken Baptist Christian School Band program, and in 2017 she was honored as Aiken's Best Band Music Instructor by the Aiken Award Program; and

 

Whereas, together with her husband, Barbara Rollins has enriched countless civic and community events, including Wreaths Across America ceremonies, veterans' programs, Christmas outreach for shut-ins, and the Aiken Christmas Parade, where the AAA Band was frequently recognized as a top musical entry.  Most recently, she contributed her talents to America's 250 Anniversary concerts at Hopelands Gardens; and

 

Whereas, her leadership also includes decades of service as Musical Director for Aiken's National Day of Prayer, nineteen years as Entertainment Chairperson for Aiken's Makin', and many years as co-chair of entertainment for Aiken's One Table.  She has also shared her gifts as a trumpet soloist at churches, weddings, funerals, and numerous community gatherings; and

 

Whereas, for her exemplary leadership and tireless service of over fifty years, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to extend best wishes to Barbara as she transitions to a well-deserved retirement in the days ahead.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Barbara Lee Rollins upon the occasion of her retirement, commend her for more than five decades of dedicated service to music education and community life, and wish her much happiness and fulfillment in the years ahead.      

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Barbara Lee Rollins.
