A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MAJOR NATHANIEL T. TAYLOR JR., HEAD GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH OF MILITARY MAGNET ACADEMY, FOR HIS OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP, EXTRAORDINARY COACHING SUCCESS, AND UNWAVERING COMMITMENT TO THE STUDENT ATHLETES OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM UPON LEADING THE LADY EAGLES TO THE 2026 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to recognize those distinguished individuals whose leadership, dedication, and service positively impact the lives of young people and strengthen communities across this great State; and
Whereas, Major Nathaniel T. Taylor Jr., head girls basketball coach of Military Magnet Academy in North Charleston, has established himself as one of South Carolina's premier high school basketball coaches through his steadfast commitment to excellence, discipline, and student athlete development; and
Whereas, during the 2025-2026 basketball season, Coach Taylor masterfully led the Military Magnet Academy Lady Eagles to an outstanding 26-4 overall record and a dominant victory in the 2026 South Carolina High School League Class A State Championship, defeating Great Falls High School by a score of 70-21. This championship victory marked the Lady Eagles' fifth state title in six seasons, further cementing the program's legacy as one of the most successful girls basketball programs in the Palmetto State; and
Whereas, under Coach Taylor's leadership, the Military Magnet Academy Lady Eagles have compiled an exceptional 181-53 overall record during his nine-year tenure as head coach and have lost only one region contest in eight years, posting a remarkable 78-1 region record; and
Whereas, Coach Taylor has guided the Lady Eagles program to twenty or more wins in six of the past seven seasons, building a culture of consistency, competitiveness, and championship expectation; and
Whereas, Coach Taylor's 2025-2026 championship run was particularly noteworthy, as he led one of the youngest and least experienced teams of his tenure to a state title, developing a roster that included multiple middle school student athletes and six first-year varsity players into championship-caliber competitors; and
Whereas, for his exemplary leadership and coaching performance, Coach Taylor was named the 2026 Live 5 News Girls Basketball Coach of the Year, a fitting recognition of his tremendous impact on high school athletics in the Lowcountry and throughout South Carolina; and
Whereas, beyond the accolades and championships, Coach Taylor has distinguished himself as a mentor and role model whose influence extends well beyond the basketball court, instilling in his student athletes the values of discipline, perseverance, teamwork, accountability, and leadership; and
Whereas, Coach Taylor has remained deeply committed to the development of local youth, with every member of the 2025-2026 Lady Eagles roster having begun their basketball journey through the City of North Charleston Recreation League, a testament to his dedication to grassroots athletic development and community investment; and
Whereas, through his mentorship and leadership, numerous former Lady Eagles student athletes have advanced to collegiate basketball programs, continuing their academic and athletic careers at institutions including South Carolina State University, Voorhees University, Lander University, Allen University, and others; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pride in recognizing individuals such as Major Nathaniel T. Taylor Jr., whose commitment to youth, education, and athletic excellence reflects the highest ideals of leadership and service in this State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Major Nathaniel T. Taylor Jr., head girls basketball coach of Military Magnet Academy, for his outstanding leadership, extraordinary coaching accomplishments, and dedicated service to the student athletes of South Carolina, and congratulate him upon leading the Lady Eagles to the 2026 Class A State Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Major Nathaniel T. Taylor Jr.
