A house RESOLUTION

 

To honor and recognize the Heathwood Hall Episcopal School boys track and field team, coaches, and school officials on an outstanding season and to congratulate them on winning the 2026 South Carolina Independent School Association Division I Championship title.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to hear that the Heathwood Hall Episcopal School boys track and field team took home top honors at the South Carolina Independent School Association Division I State Championship held on May 2, 2026, at Ben Lippen School; and

 

Whereas, to the delight of their exuberant fans, the Heathwood Hall Highlanders defeated a fine, competitive field of teams with a score of 130, besting their nearest opponent, Wilson Hall, by 14 points, and winning their second consecutive state championship title; and

 

Whereas, the Highlander's had many standout performances at the championship meet. Jack Wilcox finished first in the 1,600m and 3,200m and came in second in the 800m, earning most valuable player (MVP) honors for the meet. Teammate Townsley Rivers finished second in the 100m dash and long jump. Davis Hagstette finished third in both the 400m hurdles and in the pole vault, and William Goodwin finished third in the 200m dash. The Highlanders finished second in the 4x400 relay and third in 4x100 relay; and

 

Whereas, at the state championship meet, Highlanders Jack Wilcox, Townsley Rivers, Will Goodwin, KJ Thomas, Nicholas Iszard, Landon Heuer, and Davis Hagstette made the podium and earned All-State Honors; and

 

Whereas, in a sport that requires endurance, speed, and agility, Head Coach Tony Brown and his talented coaching staff utilized their own experience and passion for the sport to craft a championship-caliber team. The lessons that they have taught these young athletes will continue to prove invaluable beyond the track and field; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives value the pride and recognition that the Heathwood Hall Episcopal School boys track and field team have brought to their school and community, and the members look forward to following their future achievements in the days to come. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor and recognize the Heathwood Hall Episcopal School boys track and field team, coaches, and school officials on an outstanding season and congratulate them on winning the 2026 South Carolina Independent School Association Division I Championship title.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Heathwood Hall Episcopal School Head of School Christopher Hinchey and Head Coach Tony Brown.
