A house RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE THE HONORABLE PHILIP EDWARD "BRAVE" DAVIS, K.C., ON HIS RE-ELECTION AS PRIME MINISTER OF THE BAHAMAS AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the Honorable Philip Edward "Brave" Davis, K.C., was re-elected as prime minister of the Bahamas on May 12, 2026. In winning this snap election, Prime Minister Davis and his ruling Progressive Liberal Party secured a second consecutive term; and

 

Whereas, moreover, Prime Minister Davis is the first leader in nearly thirty years to be re-elected to a second consecutive term, his first election having been won on September 16, 2021; and

 

Whereas, Prime Minister Davis officially holds the titles of prime minister and minister of finance for Cat Island, Rum Cay, and San Salvador Cat Island; and

 

Whereas, born June 7, 1951, Philip Edward "Brave" Davis came into this world the son of Brave Edward Davis of Old Bight, Cat Island, and Dorothy Davis (née Smith) of Alexander, Exuma. He received his early education at the Eastern Prep School, Eastern Jr. School, and St. John's College. Upon graduating from St. John's at the age of sixteen with six GCE 'O' Levels, he was employed as a construction worker. Later, he secured employment at Barclays Bank before resigning to pursue a career as an articled clerk with Wallace-Whitfield and Barnwell. He was called to the Bar of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas on March 5, 1975; and

 

Whereas, up to his appointment as prime minister, he was a practicing attorney-at-law in the law firm of Davis and Company. He is a former partner in the law firm of Christie, Davis, and Company, and he has served as president and vice president of the Bahamas Bar Association. He has sat on the Council of Legal Education and its Executive Committee, as well as the Academic Committee of the Norman Manley Law School, Jamaica. He has served as a chairman of the National Insurance Board and as a magistrate in the Bahamas court system; and

 

Whereas, in addition, this man of faith has served as a member of St. Christopher's Anglican Church Vestry Board and also as the parish's synod representative. Married to the former Ann Marie Austin, he is the father of six. His hobbies include swimming, softball, jogging, and reading, and he is the best dancer at the Greenwood Beach Resort on Cat Island; and

 

Whereas, the House takes great pleasure in extending best wishes to Prime Minister Davis as he continues to serve the people of the Bahamas. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Honorable Philip Edward "Brave" Davis, K.C., on his re-election as prime minister of the Bahamas and wish him continued success in all his future endeavors.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Philip Edward "Brave" Davis, K.C.
