A senate RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR Diana Tisdell OF Beaufort County FOR Her NOTEWORTHY ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE AMERICAn Heritage girls organization AND TO CONGRATULATE Her UPON ReCEiVING THE PRESTIGIOUS Stars and Stripes award.
Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to learn that Diana Tisdell of American Heritage Girls Troop SC 1412 has successfully completed requirements for the organization's Stars and Stripes Award, which will be presented to her in an award ceremony held on June 2, 2025, at The Church of the Cross; and
Whereas, to earn the award, an American Heritage Girl (AHG) must exemplify the qualities of compassion, helpfulness, honesty, loyalty, perseverance, purity, resourcefulness, respectfulness, responsibility, and reverence. Every recipient uses the badge achievements and leadership skills learned through the AHG program in more than a hundred hours of planning and implementation of a service project. Candidates complete a Spiritual Walk Essay, hold a leadership position within their local troop for six months, develop an Award Resumé, complete a Project Summary Report, receive at least three letters of reference, and pass a Board of Review; and
Whereas, Ms. Tisdell's service project benefited the Friends of Honey Hill Battlefield, which supports the preservation, protection, rehabilitation, management, and interpretation of the Honey Hill Battlefield site in Ridgeland. She led volunteers to clear, place edging, and mulch for a walking trail and install fencing and an informational sign at the battlefield. Her project consisted of more than 160 volunteer hours, and through leading a fundraising effort, she was able to provide the materials needed for the project at no cost to The Friends of Honey Hill; and
Whereas, she has served numerous leadership positions in her troop including Flag Ceremony Leader, Girl Shepherd, Announcements Lead, and Squad Lead. She has also served as a junior staff member at AHG's Regional Summer Camp, leading and mentoring girls during weeklong summer camps and will serve as a Leader-in-Training this summer; and
Whereas, a native of Bluffton, Ms. Tisdell was a founding member of Troop SC 1412, having joined its Pathfinder Program at the age of five in 2012 and has earned every Level Award the program offers; and
Whereas, she attended her first summer camp at Camp Carolina in 2019. In August 2023, she earned AHG's highest Level Award, the Patriot's Abigail Adams Award. In March of 2025, she completed the requirements to earn AHG's pinnacle honor, the Stars & Stripes Award. During her time as an AHG member, she has earned thirty-one badges, which have taught her many life skills and have given her experiences that have helped her to become an avid outdoors woman and servant leader; and
Whereas, a senior at May River High School in Bluffton, Ms. Tisdell attends the University of South Carolina Beaufort under the dual enrollment program, where she has earned fifteen college credits as a high school student. With a demanding academic schedule, she participates in the performing arts, especially musical theater and chorus. In 2025, she qualified for the South Carolina Music Educators Association All-State Choral Division and participated in May River High School's Choral Performance Assessment for which the students earned a grade of Superior with Distinction. Beyond her rigorous academics and extracurricular activities, she has been working part time as a barista for Starbucks since 2023; and
Whereas, she has served more than four hundred volunteer hours in her local community and has earned the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. After her high school graduation on June 3, 2025, Diana has plans to attend college this fall to pursue a degree in music education. The South Carolina Senate is pleased to commend young citizens, like Diana Tisdell, who excel by using their talents and energies to serve others and their communities. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Diana Tisdell of Beaufort County for her noteworthy achievements in the American Heritage Girls organization and congratulate her upon receiving the prestigious Stars and Stripes Award.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Diana Tisdell.
