A house RESOLUTION

 

TO CELEBRATE THE JOYOUS OCCASION OF THE ONE HUNDRED SIXTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF FRIENDSHIP UNITED METHODIST CHURCH AND TO CONGRATULATE AND COMMEND the REvEREND Dr. ERNEST W. FRIERSON AND THE CONGREGATION FOR THEIR YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE NESMITH COMMUNITY.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Friendship United Methodist Church of Nesmith will celebrate its one hundred sixtieth anniversary under the theme, "Celebrating 160 Years of God's Grace," on Sunday, September 6, 2026; and

 

Whereas, Friendship United Methodist Church has been faithfully serving the Nesmith community since its founding in 1866; and

 

Whereas, the congregation has remained dedicated to preserving this historic church for future generations. Recently, they renovated the sanctuary to correct past construction deficiencies. The congregation will celebrate their reentry to the sanctuary under the theme, "Faithful and Forward," on Sunday, August 20, 2026; and

 

Whereas, despite many obstacles, Friendship United Methodist Church has continued to be a place of worship, hope, and fellowship for the people of Nesmith; and

 

Whereas, Friendship United Methodist Church has been a beacon of light and a community worship space for over a century and a half, and, God willing, will continue to serve and minister to the people of Nesmith for many years to come. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, celebrate the joyous occasion of the one hundred sixtieth anniversary of Friendship United Methodist Church and congratulate and commend the Reverend Dr. Ernest W. Frierson and the congregation for their years of dedicated service to the Nesmith community.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Friendship Methodist Church.
