A senate RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR WAYNE H. ABNEY SR. UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RECENT RETIREMENT AS A DEPUTY SERGEANT AT ARMS, TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE YEARS AHEAD.
Whereas, members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Wayne H. Abney Sr. upon the occasion of his recent retirement from the Senate Sergeant at Arms' office and to thank him for the outstanding public service that he has provided to this body; and
Whereas, Wayne began his law enforcement career in 1982 with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. He worked his way up the ranks, becoming an instructor in 1994, and then later retired in 2007. During that time, he also became a basic law enforcement instructor for the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy; and
Whereas, in January of 2008, Wayne joined the Senate Sergeant at Arms' staff and faithfully served until December 2024. While working in law enforcement, Wayne also selflessly served our country for twenty-five years in the United States Army Reserves; and
Whereas, Wayne is a graduate of Midlands Technical College, where he earned his associate's degree in business administration, and of Central Christian University of South Carolina, where he received a bachelor's degree in Christian ministry and a master's degree in pastoral ministry. He currently serves as the pastor of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church and Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church; and
Whereas, during Wayne's time with the Senate Sergeant at Arms, he assisted in the day-to-day operations, allowing the members and staff to safely fulfill their legislative duties. Wayne holds certifications in firearms, driving, defensive tactics, and basic law enforcement instruction; and
Whereas, now that his law enforcement career is complete, Wayne is spending more time with his wife, Jacqueline, his three children, and his five grandchildren. He enjoys cooking, fishing, and exercising while continuing to pursue his passion for helping others; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are profoundly grateful for the dedication that Wayne H. Abney Sr. has shown in serving the people of the State of South Carolina throughout his forty-two years in law enforcement. His many colleagues and friends take great pleasure in wishing him all the best and trust he will find much enjoyment in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate and honor Wayne H. Abney Sr. upon the occasion of his recent retirement as a Deputy Sergeant at Arms, commend him for his years of loyal and dedicated service to the South Carolina Senate, and wish him much happiness and fulfillment in the years ahead.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Wayne H. Abney Sr.
