A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE the honorable edward gene addington UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS eleven YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE YEARS AHEAD.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize The Honorable Edward Gene Addington upon the occasion of his retirement as Spartanburg County Magistrate on May 30, 2025; and

 

Whereas, a native of Spartanburg County, Mr. Addington was born in 1953 to parents James E. Addington and Jean Moss Addington. He graduated from Cowpens High School in 1971 and went on to attend Clemson University, from which he graduated in 1975; and

 

Whereas, a veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Addington enlisted in 1977 and attained the rank of Captain in 1981. He was honorably discharged in 1983; and

 

Whereas, during his military service, Mr. Addington received many honors and awards, including the Ranger Tab, the Parachutist Badge, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the First Class Qualification Badge, the Marksman Qualification Badge, and the Rifle M-16 Qualification Badge; and

 

Whereas, Mr. Addington was employed by State Farm Insurance as an insurance adjuster from 1987 until 2012; and

 

Whereas, a civic leader, Mr. Addington has served with many community organizations, including as a member of the Cowpens Town Council from 1992 through 1996; and

 

Whereas, Mr. Addington was appointed as a Spartanburg County Magistrate Judge on April 3, 2014. He plans to retire on May 30, 2025; and

 

Whereas, a devout Christian, he is a member of Cannons Campground United Methodist Church, where he currently serves as a Church Lay Leader, a member of Staff Parish Relations Committee, a choir member, a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the men's ministry. He has also served as the chair of Church Council; and

 

Whereas, Mr. Addington is married to Janice Addington, and together, they have a son, Dr. Justin Addington; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the passion and dedication that Mr. Addington has shown in serving the people and the State of South Carolina.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate The Honorable Edward Gene Addington upon the occasion of his retirement, commend him for his eleven years of dedicated service, and wish him much happiness and fulfillment in the years ahead.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to The Honorable Edward Gene Addington.
