A Senate RESOLUTION

 

TO recognize Reverend Dr. Mary Ann Hodge AS PASTOR OF Mt. Moriah African Methodist Episcopal Church AND TO COMMEND HER FOR HER MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO HER CONGREGATION AND THE Swansea COMMUNITY.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is proud to recognize Reverend Dr. Mary Ann Hodge for her service as pastor of Mt. Moriah African Methodist Episcopal Church in Swansea, where she has served for the past sixteen years; and

 

Whereas, Dr. Hodge has provided exceptional service to her congregation and community. She has mentored many aspiring pastors, and she has served on the board of the Community Action Agency, helping many people maintain their everyday living utilities, home ownership, and rent; and

 

Whereas, a civic leader, she also served on the first African American Alzheimer's Association Board of South Carolina, helping the African American community understand the many facets of Alzheimer's disease and its effects on family and community. She was also instrumental to founding the first Alzheimer's study for the Sandy Run, St. Matthews, and Swansea areas; and

 

Whereas, over the years, Dr. Hodge has received a number of honors and awards, including Pastor of the Year, which was bestowed on her by the Seventh Episcopal Lay Organization; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate Dr. Hodge's service to Mt. Moriah African Methodist Episcopal Church and the Swansea community.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize Reverend Dr. Mary Ann Hodge as pastor of Mt. Moriah African Methodist Episcopal Church and commend for her many years of service to her congregation and the Swansea community.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend Dr. Mary Ann Hodge.
