A concurrent RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE THE newberry college football TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO HONOR THEM FOR winning the NCAA Division 2 Super Region 2 title.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly is proud to recognize the Newberry College football team for an outstanding season and for winning the NCAA Division 2 Super Region 2 title; and

 

Whereas, the Newbery College Wolves won the South Atlantic Conference championship and posted a 12-2 overall record and 8-1 record in the South Atlantic Conference, winning a record tying ten consecutive games. They advanced to the national semifinals of the NCAA Division 2 playoffs; and

 

Whereas, the Newberry College football team has flourished under the leadership and guidance of Coach Todd Knight, who was named National and South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year; and

 

Whereas, the Wolves team boasts many talented players, including Reed Charpia who was named a finalist and finished sixth in the Harlon Hill vote, which recognizes the best player in NCAA Division 2, and is a finalist for the Blanchard-Rogers Trophy, which is given to the top collegiate player from South Carolina. He was recognized as an Honorable Mention All-America and the South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year; and

 

Whereas, Mikey Blandin was recognized as a Second Team All-America and first team All-South Atlantic Conference; Keith Desaussure as a First Team All-America and South Atlantic Conference; and Davion Pyles as a Second Team All-America and First Team All-South Atlantic Conference; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly appreciate the pride and recognition that the Newberry College football team has brought to its school and community and look forward to future accomplishments by the team and its talented athletes.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

 

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the Newberry College football team, coaches, and school officials on an outstanding season and honor them for winning the NCAA Division 2 Super Region 2 title.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Newberry College football team and Coach Todd Knight.
