A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO REMEMBER AND HONOR THE LIFE OF CHERRY LEWIS THOMPSON OF CONWAY AND TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate learned with deep sorrow of the passing of Cherry Lewis Thompson, age seventy-five, of Conway, who entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 14, 2025; and

 

Whereas, born in Conway, Cherry Lewis Thompson was the beloved daughter of the late Odell Bunion Lewis and Edith Demaris Cherry Lewis, and she lived her life grounded in faith, family, and service to her community; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Thompson was a devoted woman of faith and a member of First United Methodist Church in Conway, and she also attended Poplar Community Church, where she found strength, fellowship, and opportunities to serve others; and

 

Whereas, prior to her retirement, she served the people of South Carolina through her employment with the South Carolina Department of Social Services, where her compassion and dedication positively impacted countless lives; and

 

Whereas, she shared a loving marriage with her husband, Horry County Sheriff Phillip E. Thompson of Conway, and together they built a family rooted in love, commitment, and mutual support; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Thompson was a devoted mother to her three sons, Scott Thompson (Michelle), Christopher John Thompson (Crystal), and Bradley Thompson, all of Conway, and she took great pride in their lives and accomplishments; and

 

Whereas, she was a cherished grandmother to six grandchildren, Brandon Thompson (Landi), Blake Thompson, Nathan Thompson (Olivia), Jenna Cherry Thompson, Connor Thompson, and Lyndsay Thompson, and a beloved great-grandmother to Tucker Harvey Thompson, all of whom brought her great joy; and

 

Whereas, she is survived by these family members and also by her sister, Lynette Leventis (Peter) of Columbia; her brothers, Edward Lewis of Hemingway, Robert Lewis (Gigi) of Columbia, and Charles Lewis of Murrells Inlet; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will forever remember her kindness and grace; and

 

Whereas, Cherry Lewis Thompson will be remembered as a faithful servant; a devoted public employee; and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life enriched her family and community. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, remember and honor the life of Cherry Lewis Thompson of Conway and express their deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family.
