A senate RESOLUTION

 

TO honor and celebrate THE 2026 UNITED STATES WOMEN'S HOCKEY TEAM AND TO RECOGNIZE ALL FEMALE ATHLETES PARTICIPATING IN THE 2026 WINTER olympic GAMES FOR THEIR DEDICATION, PERSEVERANCE, AND REPRESENTATION OF EXCELLENCE IN ATHLETICS AND LEADERSHIP.

 

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is proud to recognize the outstanding achievements of the members of the 2026 United States Women's Hockey Team, whose skill, discipline, and teamwork have brought honor to our nation on the international stage; and

 

Whereas, the 2026 Winter Games showcase the highest level of global athletic competition, bringing together elite athletes who exemplify courage, sacrifice, and excellence; and

 

Whereas, the women of Team USA Hockey continue a proud tradition of excellence, resilience, and sportsmanship, inspiring generations of young athletes, particularly young girls, to pursue their dreams in sports once considered inaccessible to women; and

 

Whereas, since the inclusion of women's ice hockey in the Olympic Winter Games in 1998, the United States Women's Hockey Team has consistently demonstrated world-class performance, competitive excellence, and national pride; and

 

Whereas, in a time when women's sports are too often drawn into divisive political debates and used to score partisan points, these athletes have remained focused on competition, teamwork, and excellence, rising above the noise and demonstrating that their achievements speak for themselves; and

 

Whereas, the 2026 Winter Games represent not only athletic competition but also the ongoing advancement of equity and opportunity for women in sports, reflecting decades of progress under Title IX and the tireless advocacy of women leaders, coaches, and athletes; and

 

Whereas, female athletes competing in the 2026 Winter Games across all disciplines, including hockey, figure skating, alpine skiing, snowboarding, speed skating, and other events, serve as powerful role models who demonstrate leadership, determination, and the limitless potential of women and girls; and

 

Whereas, the dedication required to compete at the international level reflects years of sacrifice, rigorous training, academic balance, and community support, values that resonate deeply with the citizens of South Carolina; and

 

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is committed to supporting opportunities for women and girls in athletics, recognizing that sports participation builds confidence, strengthens communities, and fosters leadership both on and off the field of play; and

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate celebrate and commend all female athletes participating in the 2026 Winter Games for breaking barriers, inspiring future generations, and advancing the cause of equity in athletics.  Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the Senate:

 

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor and celebrate the 2026 United States Women's Hockey team and recognize all female athletes participating in the 2026 Winter Olympic Games for their dedication, perseverance, and representation of excellence in athletics and leadership.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to representatives of USA Hockey.
