    A BILL TO AMEND SECTION 12-37-250, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE HOMESTEAD PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION FOR PERSONS WHO HAVE ATTAINED THE AGE OF SIXTY-FIVE YEARS OR WHO ARE TOTALLY AND PERMANENTLY DISABLED, SO AS TO INCREASE THE EXEMPTION FROM TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS TO TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR A TAXPAYER WHO HAS ATTAINED THE AGE OF EIGHTY YEARS, AND OVER TEN YEARS TO REDUCE TO AGE SEVENTY THE AGE AT WHICH THIS INCREASED EXEMPTION APPLIES, TO DELETE OBSOLETE LANGUAGE, AND TO ALLOW THE HIGHER EXEMPTION TO THE SURVIVING SPOUSE IF THAT SPOUSE IS OTHERWISE ELIGIBLE FOR THE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION.
