H 3083 General Bill, By M.O. Alexander, Alexander, T.T. Mappus and J.I. Rogers
    A Bill to amend Chapter 19, Title 2, Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, relating to the joint committee to review candidates for offices elected by the General Assembly, by adding Section 2-19-15 so as to revise the membership of the committee when reviewing candidates for a Family Court, Circuit Court, Court of Appeals, or Supreme Court judgeship; by adding Section 2-19-70 so as to provide that no candidates for these judgeships may campaign or lobby members of the General Assembly for these positions until the qualifications of all candidates have been determined by the committee and to provide that a candidate found by the committee to have violated this provision is disqualified from that election for the judgeship; by adding Section 2-19-80 so as to provide that where the committee finds a candidate for these judgeships not qualified for the office sought, the election for that office must not be held until additional candidates have been given an opportunity to file for election to the office, hearings on these candidates, if necessary, have been conducted, and the committee has rendered its report concerning these additional candidates; and by adding Section 2-19-90 so as to provide that no person may be nominated from the floor for election to these judgeships whose qualifications have not been reviewed by the committee.
