Summary: Schools may not possess mercury
    A BILL TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-1-395 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 2007, A SCHOOL MAY NOT POSSESS, USE, OR PURCHASE ELEMENTAL MERCURY OR A MERCURY COMPOUND; AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL AND THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION SHALL SPONSOR A SERIES OF MERCURY COLLECTION EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE STATE TO ENSURE THAT EXISTING MERCURY SUPPLIES ARE COLLECTED, REMOVED, AND RECYCLED PROPERLY.
