H 2091 General Bill, By A.V. Rawl
A Bill to amend Section 14-27-20, as amended, Code of Laws of South Carolina,
1976, relating to the composition of the Judicial Council, so as to add two
masters in equity to the Council, change the reference of "County Courts and
Courts of Juvenile-Domestic Relations" to "Family Courts", and change the
reference of "South Carolina State Bar" to "South Carolina Bar"; to amend
Section 14-27-30, as amended, relating to the authority of the Chief Justice
to appoint members to the Judicial Council and providing that other members
shall serve ex officio, so as to add the two masters in equity to the list of
Council members to be appointed by the Chief Justice and change the reference
of "South Carolina Bar Association" to "South Carolina Bar"; to amend Section
14-27-40, as amended, relating to the terms of members of the Judicial
Council, so as to provide that the two masters in equity shall serve for a
period of four years each, provide that if the Chief Justice designates some
other member of the Supreme Court to serve on the Council, such other member
shall serve during his term of office, change the reference of "South Carolina
State Bar" to "South Carolina Bar", and provide that the two magistrates and
the two masters in equity shall be included in the designated group of Council
members who shall cease to be members prior to the expiration of their
respective terms if they cease to hold the official positions entitling them
to membership; and to amend Section 14-27-80, which provides that the duties
of specified members of the Judicial Council shall be performed as part of the
duties of their respective offices, so as to include the magistrates, the
masters in equity, and the faculty member of the Law School of the University
of South Carolina in the list of such specified members and change the
reference of "Inferior Court Judges" to "Inferior Court Judge".
