A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
GENERAL ASSEMBLY AT THE DEATH OF MR. JAMES LEE (J.L.)
MILLER OF CLARENDON COUNTY AND EXTENDING
SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, Mr. James Lee (J.L.) Miller of Clarendon County died at the
age of seventy on December 12, 1992; and
Whereas, Mr. Miller was educated in the public schools of Clarendon
County and at the University of Southern California; and
Whereas, he was a staunch champion of the civil rights movement and
has been called one of the founding fathers of that movement; and
Whereas, he was instrumental in integrating the public schools of
Clarendon County and obtaining school bus transportation for black
children in the Jordan community; and
Whereas, he was active and involved for many years in many civic
matters and contributed greatly in many ways to the betterment of his
community; and
Whereas, he was an admired and beloved leader whose presence will be
missed very much. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina, by this resolution, express sorrow at the death of Mr. James
Lee (J.L.) Miller of Clarendon County and extend sympathy to his
family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
family of Mr. Miller.
