A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING SORROW AT THE DEATH OF THOMAS UDELL BURGESS AND EXTENDING SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, Thomas Udell Burgess of Anderson County, a beloved, devoted, and dedicated individual in his community, died Saturday, February 24, 1996; and

Whereas, Mr. Burgess was affectionally known as Tommy to his family, coworkers, and friends; and

Whereas, Mr. Burgess was a 1974 graduate of Clemson University with an agricultural engineering degree and a former veteran of the Vietnam War; and

Whereas, Mr. Burgess was well-known in the community from his position as a rural mail carrier and union steward with the postal service; and

Whereas, Mr. Burgess was a farmer and breeder of quarter and paint horses and active in team penning; and

Whereas, Mr. Burgess was a former chief of the Centerville Fire Department, a former Fireman of the Year, and a current member of the Board; and

Whereas, Mr. Burgess was a major in the U.S. Army Reserves, l08th Division of the 2nd Battalion; and

Whereas, Mr. Burgess was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, where he was a former coach of the l7 and under boys basketball team; and

Whereas, Mr. Burgess was the husband of Jane O'Neal Burgess, the father of Tammy Burgess and Michael Burgess, the grandfather of Brittney Jane Greenway, the son of Sara Kay Burgess, and the brother of Kay Jackson and Elaine Keel; and

Whereas, Mr. Burgess brought much love, care, concern, and help not only to his family but to the good people of his community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express sorrow at the death of Thomas Udell (Tommy) Burgess and extend sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Thomas Udell (Tommy) Burgess.
