A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS
OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE
FAMILY, CLASSMATES, AND FRIENDS OF KENDRIC S.
CHILDS OF GREENWOOD WHO DIED ON MAY 18, 1997, AS
A RESULT OF A TRAGIC AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were
deeply saddened to learn of the death of Kendric S. Childs of
Greenwood who died on May 18, 1997, as a result of a tragic
automobile accident; and
Whereas, Kendric S. Childs, age seventeen, was a senior at Emerald
High School, Greenwood, where he was Senior Class President and
a member of the Student Government Association, a member of the
Track and Cross Country Team, the Mock Trial Team, the Model
U.N. Team, the Foreign Language Club, the Literary Club, the JETS
Team, the Academic Challenge Team, a four-year member of the
National Honor Society, a former Emerald City Rotary Club Student
of the Month, and a member of the Medical Explorers Team at Self
Memorial Hospital; and
Whereas, before the tragic accident of May 18, 1997 cut his life
short, in addition to serving as President of the Senior Class, Kendric
S. Childs was slated to be class salutatorian at the upcoming
graduation of his class at Emerald High School and was bound for
Duke University on a full scholarship and, in addition to his academic
pursuits, was expected to make a significant contribution to the Duke
University track and field program; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by
this resolution, would like to express their deepest sympathy to his
family and friends, and to the faculty, staff, and his classmates at
Emerald High School upon the death of this truly outstanding young
man. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly hereby
express their deepest sympathy to the family, classmates, and friends
of Kendric S. Childs of Greenwood who died on May 18, 1997, as a
result of a tragic automobile accident.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
his parents, Mark and Linda Stevens Childs, and to Emerald High
School, Greenwood, South Carolina.
