A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
COMMENDING AND THANKING MR. PHILLIP C. MUSGRAVE
FOR HIS OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE TO
THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF EDGEFIELD COUNTY UPON HIS
RETIREMENT AS PRINCIPAL OF STROM THURMOND HIGH
SCHOOL AND EXTENDING BEST WISHES FOR HAPPINESS
IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, Mr. Phillip C. Musgrave of Edgefield County is retiring
June 30, 1998 as principal of Strom Thurmond High School; and
Whereas, Mr. Musgrave first came to the Edgefield County School
District in 1966 as a teacher, after two years in Clover; he spent the
next thirteen years as teacher, coach and disciplinarian, becoming the
assistant principal at Strom Thurmond High in 1979 and principal in
1983; and
Whereas, Mr. Musgrave has promoted high standards and advanced
the educational curriculum at Strom Thurmond, adding many new
courses, including advanced placement classes, a third year of a
foreign language, and a computer curriculum class; and
Whereas, while principal, Strom Thurmond High School won two
State School Incentive Rewards and was recognized for exceptional
performance on educational criteria; and
Whereas, he always has the best interest of the students at heart
whether it is improving student safety and educational opportunities
or promoting better communications between students and faculty;
and
Whereas, Mr. Musgrave has demonstrated his dedication,
commitment, and leadership not only in public education but also in
many community and civic organizations and has served as the
Mayor of Trenton since 1981; and
Whereas, he is a Master Mason and has been a deacon for twenty-six
years at Ebenezer Baptist Church; and
Whereas, throughout his tenure he has been known as a firm but
caring administrator and is greatly admired and respected by both
students and faculty for his hard work, leadership, and many
contributions. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina, by this resolution, commend and thank Mr. Phillip C.
Musgrave for his outstanding leadership and service to the school
district of Edgefield County upon his retirement as principal of Strom
Thurmond High School and extend best wishes for happiness in all
his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to
Mr. Phillip C. Musgrave.
