H. 4853

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE MEMBERS OF THE LAMAR HIGH SCHOOL "SILVER FOXES" FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH J. R. BOYD AND HIS STAFF FOR WINNING THE 2003 CLASS A STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, being a member of a sports team allows young people to have the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing great athletic talents; and

Whereas, to become a champion in football, all members of the team and the coaching staff must have outstanding leadership skills and physical abilities; and

Whereas, the Lamar High School "Silver Foxes" of Darlington County capped their wonderful 2003 football season by winning the Class A State title in a victory over Lake View High School at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia; and

Whereas, the victory was a real team effort because the Lake View "Wild Gators" were a fine football team which would not be easily defeated; and

Whereas, entering the championship game with a record of 14-1, the "Silver Foxes" knew that this game was especially important to the senior players, who were looking to defend their 2002 State Championship and to add one more title to their list before they graduated; and

Whereas, under the guidance of Head Coach J. R. Boyd, the Lamar High School "Silver Foxes" proved that they were truly athletically blessed and had a strong commitment to the game of football and to each other; and

Whereas, this outstanding finish for the 2003 Lamar football team that resulted in thirteen wins and a state championship has brought great credit not only to Lamar High School, its administration, staff, alumni, students, and loyal fans, but also to the citizens of Darlington County as well. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate and commend the members of the Lamar High School "Silver Foxes" football team and Head Coach J. R. Boyd and his staff for winning the 2003 Class A State Football Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach J. R. Boyd.
