A HOUSE RESOLUTION TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH
CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE MEMBERS OF THE A.C. FLORA HIGH SCHOOL

H. 5275
A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE MEMBERS OF THE A.C. FLORA HIGH SCHOOL GOLF TEAM AND HEAD COACH HARRY HUNTLEY FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN IN THE CLASS AAA STATE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITION.
Whereas, being a member of a sports team allows young people the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing great athletic talents; and
Whereas, to become a champion in golf, all members of the team and the coaching staff must have outstanding individual concentration and physical abilities; and
Whereas, the A.C. Flora High School "Falcons" of Columbia capped their thrilling 2004 golf season by taking the Class AAA State title in a 599-608 victory over North Myrtle Beach High School in a resounding victory at Bay Tree Golf Plantation in North Myrtle Beach; and
Whereas, the overwhelming victory was a real team effort with senior Michael Chappell leading the team with an even par, two-round score of 144 and fellow senior Michael Powell bringing in a final round of 73; and
Whereas, all five "Falcons" finished with a 77 or better for the tournament, and A.C. Flora was able to defend its state championship title despite some competition from North Myrtle Beach High; and
Whereas, a two-time runner-up in the state championship in 2001 and 2002, the A.C. Flora "Falcons" finally clenched the title in 2003 with a twenty-seven stroke victory, and they did not relinquish this title at the 2004 competition, again capturing the title, this time by nine strokes; and
Whereas, Head Coach Harry Huntley charged his team with enthusiasm, and the golf team was able to perform well on the final nine holes of the tournament due to their experience of playing in previous tournaments; and
Whereas, this outstanding finish for the 2004 A.C. Flora Golf Team that accumulated a second consecutive state championship title has brought pride not only to A.C. Flora High School, its administration, staff, alumni, and loyal fans, but also the members of the Columbia community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the 2004 A.C. Flora High School Golf Team and Head Coach Harry Huntley for their outstanding state championship win in the Class AAA State Golf Championship Competition.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the 2004 A.C. Flora High School Golf Team and Head Coach Harry Huntley.
