H. 3324

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE CAROLINA ACADEMY VARSITY GIRLS TENNIS TEAM, OF LAKE CITY, FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR CAPTURING THE 2008 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE TEAM'S EXCEPTIONAL PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF.

Whereas, fully ready for the challenge, the Carolina Academy varsity girls tennis team crowned a perfect 17-0 season by capturing the 2008 South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) Class AA State Championship title on October 25, 2008; and

Whereas, the championship game demonstrated the Lady Bobcats' top-drawer strength, agility, and skill, finely-tuned team effort, and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, using these talents and attributes, the team, under the capable leadership of Coach Jenny Johnson and Assistant Coach Debbie Osborne, showed fans and foes alike that the Lady Bobcats' championship victory was no accident; and

Whereas, this powerhouse team boasts members Lauren Reddeck, Sonovia Bradshaw, Ali Courtney, Taylor Osborne, Tori Osborne, Haven Brown, Harula Paraschos, Rebecca Weaver, and Haley Hancock; and

Whereas, through every match, standouts Ali Courtney, Taylor Osborne, Tori Osborne, and Rebecca Weaver remained undefeated, a point of pride for the team; and

Whereas, adding yet more luster to an already scintillating season, Lauren Reddeck, Sonovia Bradshaw, and Ali Courtney were named to the SCISA Region 4 Class AA All-Region team, and senior Lauren Reddeck, the team's number-one singles player, concluded her seventh and final year with the team by garnering a spot on the 2008 SCISA Class AA All-State tennis team and being named the 2008 SCISA Class AA State Player of the Year; and

Whereas, having volunteered unbounded time and energy over eight years in rebuilding the team into state champions and in serving as an outstanding role model for her players, Coach Jenny Johnson was named the 2008 SCISA Class AA State Coach of the Year, a well-deserved honor; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing the young women of the Carolina Academy varsity girls tennis team for leading with excellence both in the classroom and on the courts and expects to hear of continued great achievements in the years ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Carolina Academy varsity girls tennis team, of Lake City, for its outstanding season and for capturing the 2008 South Carolina Independent School Association Class AA State Championship title, and honor the team's exceptional players, coaches, and staff.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Headmaster Anna Floyd and Coach Jenny Johnson, of Carolina Academy.
