A JOINT RESOLUTION
A JOINT RESOLUTION TO REQUIRE IMPROVED TRANSPARENCY AT THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION .
Whereas, recent events have illustrated the need for public agencies to be open and more transparent;
Whereas, the public is entitled to transparency in governmental matters, particularly when a governmental entity makes decisions that impacts the finances of the citizens of this State.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The Public Service Commission shall review its processes and procedures, and identify areas in which more transparency may be attained. An example of more transparency is streaming the Commission's hearings to eliminate the need for members of the public to travel to the Public Service Commission 's office in order to observe the Commission's hearings. Information on options to attain greater transparency must be provided by the Public Service Commission to the Public Utilities Review Committee by July 1, 2018.
SECTION 2. The Public Utilities Review Committee must provide this information to the General Assembly in its annual review of the Public Service Commission.
SECTION 3. This Joint Resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
