A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF JOHN NORTON MCMILLAN UPON HIS DEATH AND TO REMEMBER HIS LIFE AND WORK.

Whereas, John Norton McMillan was born in Gaffney and lived in several Palmetto State cities during his lifetime including Myrtle Beach, Columbia, Lexington, and Florence; and

Whereas, he was a graduate of the UniversityNext of South Carolina and the George Mason PreviousUniversity School of Law; and

Whereas, he was dedicated to ensuring that the people of South Carolina had access to a free, open, and effective government, as evidenced by his extensive career in many various capacities including work with the Office of Agriculture, Energy and Natural Resources, and the South Carolina Farm Bureau; and

Whereas, John McMillan also served the citizens of the Pee Dee and Grand Strand regions in the causes of tourism and jobs creation through his association with the North Eastern Strategic Alliance, the Council of Myrtle Beach Area Organizations, and other entities dedicated to these important endeavors; and

Whereas, his legacy to our State includes not only his work but also his lovely family including his beloved wife Faith Jones McMillan and their wonderful children, John Norton McMillan, Jr., Sterling Webb McMillan, and Mary Rachel McMillan; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, hereby express their deep sorrow to his family and their continuing appreciation for his personal warmth, love for his State, and effective leadership. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of John Norton McMillan upon his death and express their appreciation for his life and work.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his widow, Mrs. Faith Jones McMillan.
