A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MR. JIM HORTON OF RICHLAND COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE LIVES OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S YOUTH DURING HIS CAREER AS AN EDUCATOR, AND TO WISH HIM ALL THE BEST IN THE COMING YEARS.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the House of Representatives recognizes South Carolinians who selflessly give their time and energy in developing young minds in their communities; and

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the great achievements of those who teach and to encourage these individuals who continue to inspire children year after year; and

Whereas, Jim Horton truly deserves such distinction, as he has helped to shape countless lives in his incredible career in education; and

Whereas, Mr. Horton received a Bachelor of Arts in History at the UniversityNext of South Carolina in 1974 and a Masters Degree in Education at Clemson PreviousUniversity in 1992. He holds teaching certifications in many areas, including Drafting, Pre-Vocational, Cooperative Vocational Education, Principal (High), Vocational Center Director, and Supervisor; and

Whereas, a devoted family man, Mr. Horton shares a loving marriage with his wife and adores his three children; and

Whereas, Mr. Horton worked at Cleveland Electric Company, the South Carolina State Highway Department, and South Carolina Electric and Gas Company before pursuing his lifelong passion as an educator; and

Whereas, teaching drafting at Richland School District II high schools from 1972 until 1984, Mr. Horton returned to South Carolina Electric and Gas Company to work in Electric Operations from 1984 until 1986; and

Whereas, in 1986, Mr. Horton accepted a position at the South Carolina Department of Education Office of Vocational Education in which he evaluated the quality of career and technology education programs throughout South Carolina and served as a curriculum developer for multiple programs; and

Whereas, bringing his expertise in vocational education to individual school districts, Mr. Horton served as Secondary Coordinator for Darlington County School District from 1992 until 1994, as Vocational Coordinator of Lancaster County School District from 1994 until 2000, and currently serves as Career and Technology Coordinator of Darlington County School District; and

Whereas, Mr. Horton has been a presenter at numerous conferences, including the South Carolina Annual Vocational Education Conference, the Tennessee Annual Vocational Education Conference, and the Southeastern Trade and Industrial Education Conference, among others; and

Whereas, Jim Horton remains as dedicated to his students and to the furtherance of public education as he was when he began his career as an educator years ago, and his colleagues and the surrounding community are fortunate to have him in their lives. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Mr. Jim Horton of Richland County for his outstanding contributions to the lives of South Carolina's youth and wish him all the best in the coming years.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Jim Horton.
