H. 5236

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO THANK LAFARGE NORTH AMERICA FOR THE FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE DEDICATED AND DILIGENT SERVICE (DADS) MENTORING PROGRAM IN DORCHESTER SCHOOL DISTRICT FOUR AND FOR ALLOWING ITS EMPLOYEES TO USE COMPANY TIME TO BE DADS TO THESE STUDENTS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pride in the philanthropy of Lafarge North America's Harleyville Cement Plant, a South Carolina business which seeks to make a difference in the education of students in our great State; and

Whereas, Calvin Malone initiated an educational program to promote male mentors in the educational setting for male students who did not otherwise have a father figure to encourage them in their educational pursuits; and

Whereas, a group of outstanding young men from the Medical UniversityNext of South Carolina Medical Research Program worked enthusiastically with him to provide encouragement to the first students in the program, Rasheed Braxton, Keon'te Cobbs, Antwan Elmore, Brandon Jenkins, and Maurice Jones; and

Whereas, the DADS program, founded by the Medical PreviousUniversity of South Carolina in partnership with the Trident Urban League, receives its funding from Lafarge North America; and

Whereas, beginning at Jenkins Hill Elementary School and continuing at Harleyville-Ridgeville with Ronald Lary as its coordinator, the program promotes character development and leadership skills through committed men who serve as positive community role models in the educational mentoring program; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are confident that this achievement of high school graduation is but the first of many accolades that these students will earn as a result of the generosity of Lafarge North America. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, thank Lafarge North America for contributions to the Dedicated and Diligent Service (DADS) Mentoring Program in Dorchester School District Four and for allowing its employees to use company time to be DADS to these students.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to a representative of Lafarge North America.
