A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR DR. HENRY H. HUNT, SUPERINTENDENT OF PICKENS COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, AND TO WISH HIM SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Dr. Henry H. Hunt began his tenure as Superintendent of the School District of Pickens County (SDPC) in June 2009; and

Whereas, Dr. Hunt earned a degree in math from Bob Jones UniversityNext and then served on active duty in the U.S. Army; and

Whereas, between leaving the Army and beginning graduate school, he began his career in the School District of Pickens County in 1971 when he taught math at Dacusville High School and Dacusville Junior High until 1977. During this time, he discovered he enjoyed teaching children math and one of his first students was Senator Larry A. Martin, a young ninth grader; and

Whereas, while teaching he furthered his studies at Clemson PreviousUniversity to earn a M.Ed. degree in administration and supervision, a Ed. Sp. in educational administration, and a Ph.D. in educational leadership; and

Whereas, he also taught at Dacusville Elementary and A.R. Lewis Elementary, where he eventually became Assistant Principal and then Principal in 1977. He was Principal at Crosswell Elementary School from 1982 to 1996 and Principal at West End Elementary School from 1996 to 2000; and

Whereas, Dr. Hunt became a district-level administrator in 2000 when he was named SDPC Assistant Superintendent for Administration. He served in that capacity until 2008 when he became the district's Ombudsman in the Student Services division; and

Whereas, he and his wife of thirty-seven years, Songia McConnell Hunt, have one grown daughter, Leah Gannon. They were residents of Dacusville from 1975 to 1995 and now live in Easley; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to pause in their deliberations to honor one of South Carolina's most capable public servants, Dr. Henry Hunt, after an outstanding forty-one year career in education serving the youth of our great State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate and honor Dr. Henry H. Hunt, Superintendent of Pickens County School District, on the occasion of his retirement, and wish him success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Henry Hunt.
