A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MR. TUCKER JACKSON FOR HIS TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AS LANCASTER HIGH SCHOOL'S VOCATIONAL SCHOOL DIRECTOR UPON HIS RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Mr. Tucker Jackson, a pioneer in vocational education, has retired after twenty-five years as Lancaster High School's vocational school director. In addition, he has also served as Lancaster County director of vocational education for the past two years. He leaves behind a model school which is the first of its kind in the State and one that has been visited by representatives from twenty-eight states and seven countries; and

Whereas, he is the only vocational school director in Lancaster High School history, having begun in 1966 when the vocational education facility was built which originally spanned 38,000 square feet and which through the years has been enlarged to become one of South Carolina's finest facilities; and

Whereas, Tucker Jackson was educated in the Great Falls, South Carolina public school system and was graduated in 1944. He attended Clemson University, receiving his Masters in Education in 1949. After graduation, he went into private industry with J.P. Stevens. In 1959 he was employed with the Lancaster City Schools as a teacher at the secondary level, where he remained for five years until he became Lancaster High's vocational school director; and

Whereas, he has served widely in many educational and advisory capacities. He is past President of the South Carolina Vocational Association, and is a member of the South Carolina Vocational Area Centers Directors Association; and

Whereas, the respect with which he is held is evidenced by the many honors and awards he has received including being inducted into the South Carolina Vocational Directors Association's Hall of Fame in 1990, being the only person to date so honored, being named Vocational Administrator of the Year in 1989, and being named South Carolina's Vocational Teacher of the Year in 1972; and

Whereas, in addition to his wide accomplishments in his chosen profession, he has also managed to serve his community and State in a number of other capacities including service on the Board of Directors for the Elliott White Springs Memorial Hospital, and as a member of the Bethesda Methodist Church in Great Falls where he has served as Chairman of the Finance Committee among his many other activities; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and commend this outstanding South Carolinian and truly fine man for his distinguished career in vocational education upon his retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend Mr. Tucker Jackson for his twenty-five years of distinguished service as Lancaster High School's Vocational School Director upon his retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Jackson.
