S 658 Session 110 (1993-1994)
S 0658 Resolution, By Wilson
A Senate Resolution expressing the sympathy of the members of the Senate to
the family and many friends of the late John Milton Terry, Sr., of Columbia.
04/08/93 Senate Introduced and adopted SJ-3
A SENATE RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
SENATE TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF THE LATE
JOHN MILTON TERRY, SR., OF COLUMBIA.
Whereas, the members of the Senate were deeply saddened to learn of
the death on March 24, 1993, of John Milton Terry, Sr., of Columbia;
and
Whereas, Mr. Terry, a Sumter native who settled in Columbia after
serving in World War II as a tail gunner in the 5th Army Air Corps in
the South Pacific theater of operations, began his working career at
Elmwood Pharmacy in Columbia and founded Taylor Street Pharmacy
in 1947; and
Whereas, Mr. Terry was not only a pillar of Columbia's business
establishment, but was also deeply devoted to good work on behalf of
his beloved alma mater, the University of South Carolina, for years
broadcasting the statistical summary of Gamecock basketball; and
Whereas, his interest in sports led him to further service as President of
the Columbia Touchdown Club, the Columbia Tipoff Club, and the
Gamecock Club; and
Whereas, he helped organize the Jamil Shrine Temple in 1974, serving
as the Temple's first potentate -- one of many honors he received in a
forty-seven year career as a Mason and Shriner; and
Whereas, Mr. Terry was a member of numerous civic boards and clubs,
including service on the board of trustees of Richland Memorial
Hospital, the Board of Governors for Shriners Hospital, Greenville Unit,
and a member of Rotary and Sertoma; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the Senate to pause in their
deliberations so that they may note the passing of so distinguished a son
of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate express their sympathy to the family and
many friends of the late John Milton Terry, Sr., of Columbia.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs.
Myrtle Sease Terry.
