 UNIVERSITY "BULLDOGS" MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
 DURING THEIR OUTSTANDING 1999-2000 SEASON, AND TO RECOGNIZE HEAD COACH CY
 ALEXANDER AND HIS STAFF FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY "BULLDOGS" MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS DURING THEIR OUTSTANDING 1999-2000 SEASON, AND TO RECOGNIZE HEAD COACH CY ALEXANDER AND HIS STAFF FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, South Carolina State University "Bulldogs" Men's Basketball Team continued the university's winning tradition by posting a 20-14 overall record during the 1999-2000 season under the leadership of Coach Cy Alexander; and

Whereas, the team's 14-5 record in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) earned the Bulldogs a second consecutive MEAC regular-season championship and its third MEAC tournament championship in five seasons; and

Whereas, the Bulldog's outstanding regular season and MEAC tournament play earned them a berth in the NCAA tournament for the third time in five seasons; and

Whereas, the team was named National Black College Champion by the American Sports Wire for the third time in five seasons; and

Whereas, the following five team members were recognized for their individual accomplishments during the season: Mike Wiatre led the MEAC in free-throw shooting, was fifth in scoring, was named MEAC Player of the Week twice, was the Most Outstanding Performer in the MEAC Tournament, and was selected to the MEAC All-Tournament Team; James Jones was selected to the MEAC All-Tournament Team; Dexter Hall earned All-MEAC First Team honors and was among the conference's top rebounders; and Duane Johnson was selected to play in the Black College All-Star Game in Baltimore, Maryland; and

Whereas, the Bulldogs had an eight-game winning streak during the regular season and defeated Clemson University 71-68 for their first victory over an Atlantic Coast Conference school; and

Whereas, the "Bulldogs" and their coaches are to be commended for their many achievements during the 1999-2000 Season. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their congratulations to the South Carolina State University "Bulldogs" Men's Basketball Team for their many accomplishments during an outstanding 1999-2000 season, and recognize Head Coach Cy Alexander and his staff for an exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to President Leroy Davis on behalf of South Carolina State University and the "Bulldog" team.
