 THE PEOPLE LIVING IN THE IRMO AND CHAPIN COMMUNITIES, AND TO HONOR HIM FOR THE
 LEADERSHIP ROLES HE HAS ASSUMED, AT VARIOUS TIMES OVER THE LAST THIRTY YEARS,
 ON THE LEXINGTON/RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT FIVE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND ON THE
 IRMO-CHAPIN RECREATION COMMISSION.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND CARL M. HUST OF IRMO FOR HIS DEDICATION AND HARD WORK SPENT DEVELOPING FULL RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE PEOPLE LIVING IN THE IRMO AND CHAPIN COMMUNITIES, AND TO HONOR HIM FOR THE LEADERSHIP ROLES HE HAS ASSUMED, AT VARIOUS TIMES OVER THE LAST THIRTY YEARS, ON THE LEXINGTON/RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT FIVE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND ON THE IRMO-CHAPIN RECREATION COMMISSION.

Whereas, Carl M. Hust has a long history of public service to his community. He served on the Irmo-Chapin Recreation Commission from 1970 through 1975 and was its first chairman. Last month he completed his second term on the commission, January 1995 until January 2001. For the past four years he has served as its vice chairman; and

Whereas, during his first tenure, the Seven Oaks and Chapin Park facilities were established, year-round recreation programs for youth and senior citizens were created, and joint use of school facilities for recreation programs was initiated. During this term, Mr. Hust was instrumental in developing Saluda Shoals Park on the banks of the beautiful, pristine Saluda River and in renovating Seven Oaks Park; and

Whereas, Carl Hust's commitment to his community included serving on the Lexington/Richland School District Five Board of Trustees for over fifteen years; he served as its chairman and vice-chairman; and

Whereas, he is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the National Recreation and Park Association, currently serves on the National Association's Citizens Board, and is a board member of the South Carolina Recreation and Parks Association; and

Whereas, former Governor David Beasley recognized Mr. Hust's public service by awarding him the Order of the Palmetto in 1995; and

Whereas, Carl Hust serves as Executive Director of the South Carolina Senior Sports Classic and as a board member of the National Senior Olympics. In 1993 he coached the local Senior Olympics basketball team which won a gold medal; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to recognize this public service-minded individual who has tirelessly devoted himself to improving the education and recreation opportunities of the people of his community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and commend Carl M. Hust of Irmo for his dedication and hard work spent developing full recreational opportunities for the people living in the Irmo and Chapin communities, and honor him for the leadership roles he has assumed, at various times over the last thirty years, on the Lexington/Richland School District Five Board of Trustees and the Irmo-Chapin Recreation Commission.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Carl M. Hust.
