 ROCK EXIT IN RICHLAND COUNTY IN MEMORY OF JOHN C. TEMPLES AND TO ERECT
 APPROPRIATE SIGNS OR MARKERS TO REFLECT THIS DESIGNATION.

TO REQUEST THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO NAME THE NEW EXPANDED INTERCHANGE AT I-26 AND US 76/176 AT THE BALLENTINE-WHITE ROCK EXIT IN RICHLAND COUNTY IN MEMORY OF JOHN C. TEMPLES AND TO ERECT APPROPRIATE SIGNS OR MARKERS TO REFLECT THIS DESIGNATION.

Whereas, John C. Temples had a long and distinguished career as a teacher, coach, principal, and administrator for School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties; and

Whereas, he was a beloved teacher imparting to his students not only a thirst for knowledge but also a philosophy of kindness and caring for one's fellowman; and

Whereas, as a principal and administrator he was known for his fairness, integrity, and professionalism, inspiring cooperation and camaraderie among his staffs; and

Whereas, he was a faithful member of Chapin Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and the Director of Sunday School; and

Whereas, his many accomplishments and outstanding contributions were recognized by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International upon being named a Paul Harris Fellow; and

Whereas, Mr. Temples was an ardent outdoorsman and served as Director and was a former Chairman of the South Carolina Open Shooting Dog Championship. He was an advisory member to the South Carolina Sporting Dogs and Field Trial Commission; and

Whereas, he led the efforts in the planning, construction, and development of the H. Cooper Black Field Trial and Recreation Area near Patrick, South Carolina; and

Whereas, his dedication, lifelong love of the outdoors, and his avid interest in field trials was recently recognized when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame 2000 by the Association of South Carolina Field Trial Clubs; and

Whereas, it would be a proper and fitting tribute to the life and legacy of this great South Carolinian to name the I-26 interchange at the Ballentine-White Rock Exit in his memory in recognition and appreciation of his many contributions to the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, request the Department of Transportation to name the new expanded interchange at I-26 and US 76/176 at the Ballentine-White Rock exit in Richland County in memory of John C. Temples and to erect appropriate signs or markers to reflect this designation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
