A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND TRAINERS OF THE CAMBRIDGE ACADEMY FOOTBALL TEAM ON A SEASON OF SPIRITED COMPETITION, HARD WORK, AND DISCIPLINED PLAY AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON WINNING THE 2000 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS A STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the Cambridge Academy Football Team, through skill, hard work, and determination compiled a 12-1 record during the 2000 season and claimed its first South Carolina Independent School Association Class A State Championship; and

Whereas, the Cougars of Cambridge Academy took the training and discipline they developed on the practice field and turned it into a terrific season of competition with wins over Carolina Academy, Patrick Henry Academy, St. Paul's Country Day, Bowman Academy, Long Cane Academy, Wardlaw Academy, Laurens Academy, a second win over Carolina Academy, and ended the season with a victory at Jefferson Davis losing only one "shootout" to King Academy and finishing the regular season at 9-1; and

Whereas, the Cambridge Academy Football Team entered the playoffs with confidence and determination and was successful in its playoff contests against Clarendon Hall and King Academy, earning Cambridge the right to play in the title game; and

Whereas, Cambridge trailed Wardlaw Academy 20-12 at halftime, but the Cougars finished the game strong with fourteen points in the fourth quarter capped by a thirty-five yard, eight play drive that resulted in a game-wining touchdown, giving Cambridge a 32-26 victory over Wardlaw and the Cougars their first South Carolina Independent School Association Class A football title; and

Whereas, the total effort put forth by the Cougars on both sides of the ball helped teammates Walter Roark, who directed the team's offense, and Gaines Adams, the team's leader on defense, to be selected as the High School Sports Report's Players of the Year in South Carolina Independent School Association Class A football for the 2000 season; and

Whereas, Cambridge Academy Head Football Coach Steve Tanneyhill lead the Cougars to a 12-1 record and a state championship after just three seasons and because of his tireless efforts and leadership along with the dedication of his players and assistant coaches, was named the South Carolina Independent School Association Class A Coach of the Year. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives commend the players, coaches, and trainers of the Cambridge Academy Football Team on a season of spirited competition, hard work, and disciplined play and congratulate them on winning the 2000 South Carolina Independent School Association Class A State Football Championship.
