TO EXPRESS THE SUPPORT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE EFFORTS OF DESA, INC., TO DEVELOP AND EXPAND MINORITY BUSINESS ENTERPRISES IN SOUTH CAROLINA FOR THE BENEFITS OF THE STATE AND ITS CITIZENS.
Whereas, DESA, Inc., has been awarded a contract by the United States Department of Commerce to operate the Columbia Minority Business Development Center; and
Whereas, the objectives of the Columbia Minority Business Development Center are to ensure the expansion of minority-owned businesses in the Columbia SMSA and to provide management and technical assistance in the areas of business development, marketing, financial packaging, and information systems; and
Whereas, DESA, Inc., intends to maintain contact with major corporations to foster new business opportunities for minority-owned firms, match minority-owned firms and individuals with new business opportunities in both domestic and foreign markets, and develop and maintain a listing of minority-owned firms in the Columbia SMSA and serve as an advocate for those firms; and
Whereas, DESA, Inc., has an extensive track record of providing quality consulting services to business and the federal, state, and local governments for six years; and
Whereas, DESA, Inc., provides a complete range of economic development, management and technical assistance, and information support to its clients; and
Whereas, DESA, Inc., recognizes that strong viable minority business enterprises provide jobs and contribute to the economic health of South Carolina and its citizens. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate express their support of the efforts of DESA, Inc., to develop and expand minority business enterprises in South Carolina for the benefits of the State and its citizens.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Diane Sumpter, President, Columbia Minority Business Development Center.
