A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-63-65 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT BEGINNING WITH THE 1994-95 SCHOOL YEAR, ALL STUDENTS OF ANY MIDDLE OR HIGH SCHOOL OF THIS STATE SHALL WEAR IDENTIFICATION BADGES WHICH INCLUDE THEIR PICTURE AND WHICH IDENTIFIES THE STUDENT AS BEING CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN THAT SCHOOL, AND TO PROVIDE THAT THESE BADGES MUST BE PROVIDED TO ALL STUDENTS WITHOUT COST AND ARE CONSIDERED THE PROPERTY OF THE SCHOOL ISSUING THE BADGES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-63-65. Beginning with the 1994-95 school year, all students of any middle or high school of this State, within six weeks after the beginning of the school year or within ten days upon enrolling after the beginning of the school year, shall wear identification badges which identify the student as being a currently enrolled student in that school. The identification badges must include a picture of the student. These identification badges must be provided to all students without cost and are considered the property of the school issuing the badges and not the individual student's. Each school board of trustees shall establish policies for the issuance and use of these badges including policies for students who do not wear these identification badges or lose or misplace theirs."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
