A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING THE HONORABLE EUGENE C. STODDARD OF LAURENS COUNTY FOR HIS TRULY OUTSTANDING SERVICE IN THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND WISHING HIM MUCH HAPPINESS AND THE VERY BEST IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, our colleague and good friend, the Honorable Eugene C. Stoddard, has chosen not to seek reelection to the South Carolina House of Representatives; and

Whereas, Representative Stoddard's retirement marks the end of a long and illustrious career in the General Assembly; and

Whereas, he served the citizens of District 16 and the State of South Carolina with dedication and distinction for over a quarter of a century since first being elected to the House of Representatives in 1971; and

Whereas, while in the House of Representatives, he served as chairman of the Education and Public Works Committee from 1975 to 1976 and from 1979 to 1987; he also was chairman of the Joint Legislative Committee to Screen Trustees of Colleges and Universities and secretary of the Agriculture Study Committee; and

Whereas, among his many outstanding contributions are Representative Stoddard's service on the Board of Visitors for Clemson University and Board of Trustees for the University of South Carolina and Winthrop University; as a member of the Educational Television Commission, Tuition Grants Commission, Aeronautics Commission, and the South Carolina Highway Commission; and

Whereas, we owe a great debt of gratitude to Gene Stoddard for his significant contributions to the betterment and advancement of education; and

Whereas, he was a friend to all members of the General Assembly with whom he served, and his quiet but effective leadership will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, are proud to recognize the Honorable Eugene C. Stoddard of Laurens County for his truly outstanding service in the South Carolina House of Representatives and wish him much happiness and the very best in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Eugene C. Stoddard.
