TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-25-45 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT ANY TEACHER WHO EARNS NATIONAL BOARD FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHING STANDARDS (NBPTS) CERTIFICATION SHALL RECEIVE WHILE TEACHING AN ANNUAL INCREASE IN PAY FROM STATE APPROPRIATED FUNDS OF TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR FOR THE LIFE OF THE CERTIFICATE, AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE TWO THOUSAND DOLLAR COST TO OBTAIN THIS CERTIFICATION ALSO SHALL BE REIMBURSED TO TEACHERS FROM STATE-APPROPRIATED FUNDS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-25-45. Any teacher who earns National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification shall receive while teaching an annual increase in pay from state appropriated funds of ten thousand dollars a year for the life of the certificate. Additionally, the two thousand dollar cost to receive this certification shall be reimbursed to teachers from state-appropriated funds with one thousand dollars being paid at the time of application and one thousand dollars being paid at the time of certification."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
