TO AMEND SECTION 23-31-215, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMITS, SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR ISSUANCE OF A CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMIT TO A RESIDENT OF THIS STATE WHO WAS NOT A RESIDENT OF THIS STATE FOR AT LEAST TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE DATE OF HIS APPLICATION IF HE HELD A VALID PERMIT TO CARRY A CONCEALABLE WEAPON FOR TWELVE MONTHS WHILE HE WAS A RESIDENT OF A STATE WITH WHICH SOUTH CAROLINA HAS CONCEALABLE WEAPONS PERMIT RECIPROCITY.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 23-31-215(F) of the 1976 Code, as added by Act 464 of 1996, is amended to read:
"(F) The permit application form shall require the applicant to certify that:
(1) he is not a person prohibited under state law from possessing a weapon;
(2) he understands the permit is revoked and must be surrendered immediately to SLED if the permit holder becomes a person prohibited under state law from possessing a weapon;
(3) he has either been a resident of this State for at least twelve months preceding the date of his application, or if he was not a resident of this State for at least twelve months preceding the date of his application, he is now a resident of this State and held a valid permit to carry a concealable weapons for twelve months while he was a resident of a state with which South Carolina has concealable weapons permit reciprocity, or he is military personnel on permanent change of station orders; and
(4) all information contained in his application is true and correct to the best of his knowledge."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
